Therapeutic Massage

We incorporate a variety of massage techniques into all our massages. Each therapist has their own "tool box" they use for each session and tailor the massage to your specific needs. Here's a list of our most common techniques.

Deep Tissue Massage — a technique used to address issues occurring in the deeper soft tissue and fascial layers of the body. Scarring, adhesions, and muscular spasm are all treated with the goal of restoring normal function and motion to the areas affected. Deep tissue does not necessarily mean deep pressure, but rather a concentrated, specific manner of working in the deeper layers of the body to allow for more permanent changes to occur. Because this technique is very specific, some discomfort may be experienced for up to 24-36 hours following a session. We recommend that the client drink plenty of water following a session to expedite the elimination of metabolic wastes from the body and therefore speed recovery.

Sports Massage — The focus of this technique is to improve circulation, flexibility and range of motion, decrease recovery time from training, prevent injury, and improve muscular efficiency, which will result in better performance. Sports Massage treatments are often used during training and before and after a particular event to prevent injury and improve performance and recovery. The therapist includes the use of compression, light and fast strokes and then stretching of the limbs.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including helping with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Cupping therapy might be trendy now, but it’s not new. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.

TMJ Massage with Rose Huebscher, LMT

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint aka, your jaw. Some people have an audible click or pop when opening or closing the jaw but dysfunction in the TMJ’s can also manifest other symptoms. Headaches, neck pain, difficulty swallowing can all be symptoms stemming from tight jaw muscles. Factors that lead to a tight jaw can be forward head posture, teeth grinding or clenching (hello stress!) and trauma to name a few. There are several muscles IN your mouth that make up the jaw complex that are inaccessible via external work. During a TMJ massage, your TMJD certified massage therapist will likely do an intra-oral massage to treat those muscles as well as external work to the anterior neck and accessory muscles. 30, 60, or 90 minutes are available - with increasing time in the session meaning more accessory muscles or full body being included in the work.
